MKSM‘s success was crowned last year with the «Song of the Year» LGBTQ Music Award for his Pride anthem «Original Self – Enough is Enough». His talent as a singer, songwriter and violinist was also recognised by Wolfgang Stach and Franz-Wieland Filtz, hit producers of German artists such as Jupiter Jones, Bosse and Tim Kamrad. Together, they produced the latest MKSM song «Tipsy in Love» in Cologne‘s legendary Maarwegstudio2.
As with all his songs, the lyrics for «Tipsy in Love» were written by MKSM himself. The music was written in collaboration with the British songwriter Nicholas Alexander Cox and Franz-Wieland Filtz.
What «Tipsy in Love» means to MKSM: «You get to know someone and you are in a state of uncertainty and insecurity. Contrary to ‘drunk in love‘, you are just tipsy: You have the feeling that you’ve gone either too far or not far enough. Is it too early or too late? Will I get hurt or could it lead to something serious? Your consciousness is clouded and things seem unclear».
Not only does the pop song deliver very danceable beats, a thriving bass and MKSM‘s unique vocals, it also features dramatic strings he recorded himself – the violin has been MKSM’s passion ever since he was a child.
Born in Kazan (Russia), he and his family first moved to Ukraine, then to Germany. The singer has been living in London for two years now, working on his new material, but also teaching his own songwriting workshops, supporting singers and artists of all ages.
Why he decided to call himself MKSM is explained easily: During an impromptu performance in a London club his name «lost power» : «I had set up small LED letters that said ‘MAKSIM‘. Suddenly, the batteries of the ‘A‘ were empty. I thought it was funny, and then turned off the ’I’ as well», he recalls. What remained was ‘MKSM’: «I thought the four letters looked good and also quite cool». Now, MKSM stands for his first name Maksim.
With the new name, MKSM has started his new musical era: MKSM is simply himself, more so than ever before. «Over the past few years I have had the opportunity to work with a number of very creative people. Even though I‘ve always known where to go, I can say today that I‘m on a good new path where a lot of great things will happen».
At the moment, the singer is in the recording studio regularly, working with the producing team on his new EP: «After the release of the first single, other songs of the EP will be released within short intervals», MKSM promises. As with all the art out there, the journey is the reward. Music is something that you create and it changes over and over again. The same does count for real musicians like MKSM.
MKSM’s «Tipsy in Love» was added to the LGBTQ Music Chart as a newcomer – so if you want it on the chart – you need to vote here.
