As the project of musician Michael Clark, the music of Clarq is a deliberately subversive and playful take on conventional pop structures with an unashamedly queer edge. Michael, who wrote, recorded, and co-produced the EP from his flat in Brockley, London, is a lifelong pophead with a love of many different genres. He delights in embedding unusual sounds and rhythms into hook-filled pop bangers. Influenced by everything from Kesha to Frank Ocean to The Sex Pistols, «Again Before Since» is as explosive and unpredictable as it is unique.
Michael Clark, the singer songwriter behind Clarq says, «‘Again Before Since’ is at times sassy, at times despairing, but always full of life. This project is heart, soul, and beer-addled sweat, comprising a deeply intimate look into the experiences of a young queer person navigating sexuality, gender, family, and romance. People often look down on pop music, and write it off as cheap or easy. While I have been known to be cheap and easy myself on occasion, commanding a stage in platform heels is neither of those things. The best pop music has always packed in substance alongside style. ‘Again Before Since’ treats both as a prerequisite».
