Stewart Taylor talks about an old flame he unfortunately had to put out in his most recent hit, «Favourite Ex» from his album Out Artist. We broke up when I moved to Los Angeles to further my profession, he says.

«We both knew life would eventually take me out West and that our time together was limited, but I often wonder what would’ve been had I stayed».

The song, which is Stewart Taylor‘s second ballad about his ex-girlfriend, blends 80s nostalgia with contemporary pop and R&B. His 2019 single “Mess Your Hair Up” also features him.

Stewart claims that during a phone conversation years later, he congratulated his ex for being so kind and declared him to be his favourite ex. «I smile as I reflect on what we had».

Stewart Taylor’s «Favourite Ex» was created by Romanian hitmaker MADS (David Guetta, Imagine Dragons), is independently released, and is accessible on Apple Music, Spotify, and all other online music services.

The song «Favourite Ex» is well captured in the music video. Its breathtaking coastal scenery (shot in Malibu) and expansive desert sequences (shot in the Mojave Desert) transport viewers through the turmoil of an unwanted separation. I was in wonder and it also brought up some really dark feelings to walk through the desert for hours on end. Stewart explains. It perfectly encapsulated the sadness I experienced upon ending the relationship.

The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, whose central premise is that every party must come to an end, served as the idea for this video. Beautiful things crumble, just as they do in the book. The white roses signify the end of romance, while the chandelier in the desert indicates the end of richness in the union.

The video was directed by Benjamin Farren. Stewart’s outfits in the video were fashioned and made by German fashion designer Joseph Auren, while Julie Vegliante, who has collaborated with Lady Gaga, choreographed. One of Stewart’s favourite aspects of the «Favourite Ex» film is the gorgeous clothing, she says. «While filming, I imagined myself as a lonely prince, dressed to the nines, and surrounded by all of this beauty with no one to share it with».

He acknowledges that, in reality, Stewart found it particularly difficult to accept the news that his ex-lover had met someone new. He laughs, «I would never truly do something like that, but in the song I fantasise about going back with my ex and grabbing him from his new man. For that one, I definitely used some poetic licence».

Stewart Taylor is a singer, songwriter, dancer, and MMG actor/model who resides in Los Angeles. He started creating songs and singing in local talent showcases and Lower East Side bars while still a child, growing up in a small village outside of New York City. Since earning his degree from Boston’s Berklee College of Music, he has written songs for a variety of artists, including American Idol’s David Hernandez, JuJu Bee, Mo Heart, and Manila Luzon from RuPaul’s Drag Race, as well as Romanian pop star Antonia.
