West Pride announces competition for this year’s Pride anthem

The winning entry in the competition, organised for the third time, will become West Pride's official pride song in 2024.

The jury includes Karin Gunnarsson, Melodifestivalen’s competition producer, Ronny Larsson, editor-in-chief of the newspaper QX, artist and songwriter Melanie Wehbe, and Anders Olsson, producer for West Pride’s stage program.

With the competition, we aim to provide artists and songwriters the opportunity to create music that celebrates, describes, or uplifts the life experiences of LGBTQI individuals globally. This is the third year we are hosting the competition, and it has received great acclaim. We are excited to organise another competition, according to Tasso Stafilidis, West Pride operations manager.

After last year’s success with about 50 entries submitted, West Pride are once again holding a competition. The winning entry will be chosen as West Pride’s official pride song, and the artist or group that performs it will have the opportunity to sing on our stage during the festival in front of thousands of visitors at Pride Park, according to Anders Olsson, producer of West Pride’s stage program.

Last year’s contest was won by Teeo, an artist and songwriter, with the track «I Adore Me». The song spent multiple weeks on the LGBTQ Music Chart and even reached the #1 spot!

This year, West Pride is scheduled for 10-16 June 2024. The lineup of artists set to perform at Pride Park will be disclosed alongside the program launch on 11 April 2024. The victorious composition for this year’s West Pride anthem will be revealed on 8 May 2024.

The contest commences on 27 February 2024 and concludes on 1 April, 2024!

Competition Rules

The submission must be sent to West Pride by April 1, 2024, in the form of an audible sound file or a link to the sound file via email at pridelat@westpride.se.

The submission should include a song and a suggestion for an artist or group to perform the piece, both at West Pride’s event and on music platforms.

The submission must in some manner honour, describe, or showcase the life experiences of LGBTQI individuals worldwide.

The proposal must align with West Pride’s fundamental principles.

The majority of the song’s lyrics should be in Swedish or English.

The submission must not have been officially performed previously.

The group or artist performing the submission on the recorded version should be available for West Pride’s event in Gothenburg on 13th, 14th, and 15th June, 2024.

The winning entry will be chosen by a jury appointed by West Pride.

The winning entry will be released on Spotify and similar music platforms in collaboration with West Pride.

The winning entry’s cover art on Spotify and other music platforms must include West Pride’s logo.

West Pride reserves the right to use the winning entry for promotional, marketing, and communication purposes at no cost.

West Pride may produce a music video for the winning entry that focuses on the theme of Pride and celebrates, describes, or highlights the experiences of LGBTQI individuals.
