LGBTQ+: Opera characters need to be more diversely portrayed

According to a Welsh opera singer, the genre needs greater LGBTQ+ representation if it is to survive.

More LGBTQ opera characters need to be written, according to 33-year-old Elgan Llr Thomas from Llandudno in Conwy county.

If he had encountered more gay characters as a child, the tenor singer claims he would have «found the language earlier» to express his identity.

He described a «very healthy» number of LGBTQ artists but a «drought» in terms of «actual representation», BBC reports.
